This week...

This week, on Wednesday, Jack and I went to the library to pick out more books, and then we went to Green Peppers for pizza.
We wound up renewing the Construction Alphabet Book. It's amazing how well he knows the machines! He's so smart.
At the library, we ran into Mariah and her daughter, Willow, who is four years old. The two of them kind of eyeballed one another and played in proximity, but we weren't really there long enough for them to stop being shy-ish and play.
Mariah called him 'Muffin,' which he found hilarious. Then he said to me, "I'm a muffin, you need to eat me!" So I nibbled on his shoulder, and Mariah took this picture on her phone.

I picked a few books out for Jack, but I wanted him to pick one out this week as well. He picked a book about the moon, a few years too old for him, and he wanted me to read it over and over again. Of course, when I got to the part about the scientific facts, diameter, distance from the earth and whatnot, he became suddenly far more interested in naming the things in the pictures than actually reading... But he really seems to enjoy the moon.
After we left the library, we had to stop by the video store to give Emily her gloves. Jack loves to drive around in the purple car (as does every kid who walks through our door...). So he rode around for a little while, and I called ahead for the pizza.

Jack and I had a great conversation getting into the car.
He said, "We're going bowling!"
To which I replied, "No, we're going to get pizza."
He answered, with a sigh, "I'm frustrated."
"Why are you frustrated?" I asked.
"Because we get pizza at the bowling!"
Hmm... very good, accurate use of the word frustrated... I'm impressed.
Then I explained to him that there are other places to get pizza, and that we were just going to a restaurant. After which he was a bit less frustrated, though still longing to go bowling. I promised him a trip another day.
At the restaurant, Jack was adorable. And made a point of saying so.... repeatedly. He's taken to repeating, "I'm cute," sporadically for about twenty minutes after someone else tells him that. Of course, he's not wrong...

Saturday Morning
We finally got Jack to the salon for some mop maintenance. And now he look soooo handsome!

He was so good at the salon.
The ladies there gave him animal crackers to snack on. He told me as we were getting in the car to go that he was scared. I promised him it wouldn't hurt and that he would look so handsome.
When we got there, he was a little apprehensive, but he let us put him up in the booster seat and get the cloth thingy around him. He didn't whine or fuss. He had a bit of a pout on his face, but as his hair began looking better and better (and as Lincy and I lavished him with complements on how handsome he is) his frown slowly but surely changed direction. Lincy also did my hair, and so Jack hung out for the better part of an hour, looking at his books, eating copious amounts of animal crackers, and in general, being adorable and endearing himself to all of the ladies in the place. I think he even got one of the stylists to read to him while she wasn't with a client... While we were there, two other little boys came in for haircuts, both a few years older than Jack. By comparison, Jack was truly an angel. I mean, really he was anyway, but the behaviors of one of the other kids in particular really emphasized how lucky Auntie Katie is to have such a well behaved nephew!
His good nature prompted two things:
1. A trip to the dollar store to pick out some toys, and
2. I am so willing to take him back there anytime, and I'm sure Lincy would be more than happy to cut his hair again!

Oh, and she cut it so that his hair can be styled into a fauxhawk, so, you know, if Grammy ever decides to do his hair, that's a possibility (and one that looks adorable on him!). And, you know, remember to take pics if you ever do, Ma.

Thanks for reading,
Auntie Katie
